Pool Decks

A common occurrence for us when we are restoring pool decks is showing up to a home and getting to the backyard area to see a pool deck that potentially just at first glance has some years left in it. When we ask why the customer wants to repair it the answer is usually something like the surface is way too rough, it’s impossible to walk on with bare feet. Also, we’ve heard it get’s to slippery when wet. There are a ton of things that you’re going to want to account for when building a pool deck. With that in mind we want to go over the procedures that we follow when creating or updating one.

What Type of Materials Are Going To Be Used In The Process?

We get asked this question by people who as we mentioned currently have a rough pool deck. They probably don’t want to hear that we are also going to be using concrete. The difference though is the finish that you are going to apply to the concrete. That can turn the whole area into a completely different spot. We’ll walk you through all of the options that are available for you.

Could You Make An Existing Surface Smoother?

There are ways that we can do this. Whether it be through applying a stained concrete finish or maybe resurfacing the area. It really depends on the current state of the concrete in your pool deck. What we can say is that we typically do want to make an effort to look for solutions with what’s there. We don’t like to be one of those companies that always recommend that you tear everything down and you start over. Many times there are a lot of things that can be done with an existing surface for sure.

Creating Something That Is Safe & Looks The Part

We’ve heard stories in the past of how folks try to justify the fact that they created an extremely rough pool deck. Saying that if the deck was smoother it would get super slippery when wet. That’s not necessarily one big lie. The thing with pool decks though is that you have to find the balance to where you can create a surface that doesn’t become a major hazard when wet. At the same time won’t cut your feet up in an effort to keep you from slipping. We like that challenge of making great looking pool decks that provide a decent level of safety if you will.
